Library
Meet the Librarian
Welcome to the Viewlands Library! My name is Ms. Emmy Misner, and I am the school librarian. I’m here to help students explore books and resources to foster a love of reading.

Library Schedule & Book Checkout
First through fifth grade students visit the library once a week on either Thursday or Friday. Kindergarten and Mr. D’s class visit every other Wednesday.
Here’s the checkout information for each grade:
- Kindergarten: In the Fall, students can check out 1 book. Starting in the Winter, they can check out 2 books.
- 1st to 5th Grade: Each student may check out 3 books at a time. However, this depends on the availability of volunteers to assist with shelving returned books.

Volunteer Opportunities
We rely on volunteers to help students check out the correct number of books and keep the library running smoothly. If you’re interested in volunteering for 30 minutes or more a week, we would love your help! Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Friday mornings are the most common time to volunteer with others, but the days and times are flexible, so you can find something that fits your schedule. Please sign up on Konstella or email me.

Late Notices
At minimum, students will receive 3 notices throughout the year with extras sent at the end of the year. Please know this is to help get those missing books returned but should not cause your child or your family stress. We do not charge any late fees and know sometimes the books are hiding in the most unlikely places. Finding them may take time.
Amounts in Parentheses:
An amount in parentheses is great! It indicates a refund. This typically means a book you thought was lost was located and checked in after you paid. You can choose to either request a refund or donate the money to the library.
Overdue and Lost Books
Lost Book Replacement:
If a book is lost, here’s how you can resolve the situation:
1. Paying Fines for Lost Books:
There are three ways to pay for fines related to lost books:
- Pay Online via SchoolPay:
Let me know you’d like to pay. I will mark the book as “lost”. After marking the book “lost”, the fine will be ready to pay under “School Payments” on The Source. Log into your account on The Source. Use the search feature to find “Library” fines. Payments can be made by credit card. - Replace the Book:
You can bring in a new hardback copy of the book to replace the lost one. Often, this option is cheaper than paying the fine. Once you bring the replacement book, let me know, so I can catalog it correctly and remove the lost book fine from your record. - Payment Assistance:
If you’re unable to pay the fine, please reach out to me directly. We can work together to find a solution.
Please keep me updated on your choice, so I don’t send additional notices or emails. You can reach me at elmisner@seattleschools.org.
Global Reading Challenge for 4th & 5th Graders
Viewlands participates in the Global Reading Challenge, a fun and educational event sponsored by the Seattle Public Library. Students in 4th and 5th grade read 8 books and participate in a school-wide challenge to test their knowledge. The winning team represents Viewlands in the city-wide competition. To learn more, visit the SPL website, Learn more about the Global Reading Challenge.
SPS Online Resources
Seattle Public Schools provides a variety of online resources for students, both at school and at home.
- Microsoft Office 365 Suite: Students have access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive for storing files.
- Students can log in with their unique SPS username and password to navigate to CLEVER.
- This is the same login as their school computer. The only difference is students will have to include @seattleschools.org after their login. K-2nd graders may not know their login and passwords. Please contact the classroom teacher or librarian for login information.
If a resource on CLEVER requires a login, you’ll use the generic login:
- Username: studentsps
- Password: access
