Viewlands Elementary

Principal Wheeler’s Weekly Update 4-5-24

Hello Viewlands Families!

Spring break has arrived! There will a many things happening on school campus while students and staff are on spring break. There are quite a few construction projects planned for both inside the building and outside the building in several locations on campus. Creative Kids will still be using the school next week for childcare and preschool.  We are hopeful that there will be community access to the playground spaces in the evenings and/or weekends later this month if the construction team are able to accomplish many of the planned projects over spring break

There are always highlights when listening and learning with and from our students. This week hearing some of the 3rd grade writing; seeing the joy on student faces when they found “Where’s Wheeler” pictures that mysteriously found their way into different spaces in the building; reading with a few 1st and 2nd graders; seeing the imaginary character drawings during the author visit; and seeing some of the awesome Salad Dressing commercials in Mr. Thorpe and Mr. Arango’s classes were the highlights! Your children are bright, inquisitive, and creative thinkers. We will continue to seek ways to make every student feel known, valued, and empowered through the year.

In Partnership,

Carrie Wheeler | Viewlands Principal

Author Visit

On Tuesday this week, our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders participated in an Author Visit assembly. Ben Clanton, the author of the Tater Tales books and the Narwhal and Jelly books, visited Viewlands. He engaged students in character development through drawing activities. Thank you to Third Place Books who helped sponsor this author visit and Ms. Misner, our librarian, for coordinating the visit and assembly. It was a fun afternoon of story telling and character development through art and conversation!

Save the Date: Community Salmon Gathering

Come join our Viewlands community at Carkeek Park for an evening of community, celebration, and appreciation of our place and salmon! We’ll be walking the path our salmon take downstream, while remembering the things we’ve learned and our responsibility to the lands, waters, and more-than-humans around us. You are invited to bring a picnic dinner for your family and a dessert to share. We are excited to see you there!
