Principal Wheeler’s Weekly Update 5-9-25

Hello Viewlands Families!

This week was teacher/staff appreciation week. Thank you to VEPTSA for sharing the love this week with wonderful food and kindness shown to all the teachers and staff at Viewlands. A BIG thank you to VEPTSA and all the families that supported this week. The Viewlands Staff felt loved, supported, and appreciated. I am very appreciative of your time, effort, and support of our staff! Thank You families and VEPTSA!

This week the Viewlands Bike Bus team also had the spring Walk, Bike, Roll celebration on Wednesday. Thank you to the families that lead and support the Wednesday bike bus routes!

I mentioned last week the Viewlands Chatter, a student newspaper, the dream and vision of 4th grader Bertram with articles from him and a few other 4th graders and staff. Bertram agreed to let me share the digital version of the Viewlands Chatter. Please enjoy! Bertram is working on the 2nd edition of the Viewlands Chatter now. The theme of the 2nd Viewlands Chatter is end of school year and summer! Students can submit short articles if they are interested in writing something for the Viewlands Chatter. Articles are due Friday, May 16th.  They can be shared with Bertram directly or turned into the office to Ms. Lin! She will make sure they get to Bertram!

A few highlights from my visits in classrooms and with students this week: the students interest and excitement in the teacher Survivor challenges during staff appreciation week, there were some students that were highly invested; reviewing a proposal from a few 4th grade students about a June student spirit week; reading with a few kindergarteners; listening to students excitement and investment in picking their favorite picture book read aloud of the year in library, many students anxiously awaiting the results, they voted with pom poms during library this week; and listening to a few students discuss their ideas on how to solve a science-related problem.

Your children are bright, inquisitive, and creative thinkers. We will continue to seek ways to make every student feel known, valued, and empowered through the year.

Evening of the Arts and Culture: Wednesday May 14th 5-7PM

We hope your family will be able to visit the Viewlands Evening of the Arts and Culture. We look forward to expanding this to have more in future years but are very excited about this year’s event! This event is a family event. Students need to attend with and stay with their families during the event.

• It is an open house style, meaning families can come for a little while or stay for the entire time.
• Students stay with families at the event.
• The playground will also be open for play if families want to play there.
• There will be art and dance activities to explore and engage in, a book fair if families are interested in book shopping, and an opportunity to see the mural funded through WAARTS in one of our stairwells.
• The event ends at 7, please arrive no later than 6:15 to have time to explore. The event ends at 7, so the playground and school will close at that time.

We hope many Viewlands families will be able to attend this fun spring event. It is open house style, so families can come for a visit or stay for the duration.

Orca PRIDE Club All School Assembly

Ms. Barry helps lead the Orca Pride club. This club has been part of Viewlands for several years now. Students helped start this by expressing interest. Ms. Barry meets with 4th and 5th grade students that want to be part of the Orca pride club weekly. This club will be leading an all-school assembly to support Pride month in June, in addition to representing Viewlands at the annual PhinneyWood Rainbow Hop Pride celebration in Greenwood.

The all-school Pride assembly is scheduled for Monday, June 2nd. The theme of the assembly is What Does PRIDE Mean to Me. Students in the Orca Pride club would love to have other students and families participate and share their own stories about why PRIDE is important to them.

VEPTSA Spring General Meeting – Tuesday May 20

Save the Date for the Spring General Meeting. This is an important meeting with a vote on nominations and the budget for next year. Onsite childcare provided by Creative Kids.

Save the Date – Field Day Volunteers Needed June 13
Be on the lookout to sign up to volunteer to assist with running stations, supervising games, and supporting our students during Field Day. All Field Day volunteers must be registered with Seattle Public Schools.

¡Hola familias de Viewlands!

Esta semana fue la semana de agradecimiento a los maestros y al personal. Gracias a VEPTSA por compartir el amor esta semana con una comida maravillosa y la amabilidad mostrada a todos los maestros y al personal de Viewlands. Un GRAN agradecimiento a VEPTSA y a todas las familias que apoyaron esta semana. El personal de Viewlands se sintió querido, apoyado y apreciado. ¡Estoy muy agradecido por su tiempo, esfuerzo y apoyo a nuestro personal! ¡GRACIAS familias y VEPTSA!

Esta semana, el equipo de Viewlands Bike Bus también tuvo la celebración de primavera Walk, Bike, Roll el miércoles. ¡Gracias a las familias que lideran y apoyan las rutas de los miércoles en bicicleta!

La semana pasada mencioné el Viewlands Chatter, un periódico estudiantil, el sueño y la visión de Bertram, estudiante de 4º grado, con artículos de él y de algunos otros estudiantes y personal de 4º grado. Bertram accedió a dejarme compartir la versión digital de la charla de Viewlands. ¡Por favor, disfrútalo! Bertram está trabajando en la 2ª edición de Viewlands Chatter ahora.  ¡El tema de la 2ª charla de Viewlands es el final del año escolar y el verano! Los estudiantes pueden enviar artículos cortos si están interesados en escribir algo para Viewlands Chatter. La fecha límite para la entrega de los artículos es el viernes 16 de mayo.  ¡Pueden compartirse con Bertram directamente o entregarse en la oficina a la Sra. Lin! ¡Ella se asegurará de que lleguen a Bertram!

Algunos aspectos destacados de mis visitas a las aulas y con los estudiantes esta semana: el interés y el entusiasmo de los estudiantes en los desafíos de los maestros sobrevivientes durante la semana de agradecimiento al personal, hubo algunos estudiantes que estaban muy comprometidos; revisar una propuesta de algunos estudiantes de 4º grado sobre una semana de espíritu estudiantil en junio; leer con algunos niños de jardín de infantes; Al escuchar el entusiasmo y la inversión de los estudiantes en elegir su libro ilustrado favorito leído en voz alta del año en la biblioteca, muchos estudiantes esperando ansiosamente los resultados, votaron con pompones durante la biblioteca esta semana; y escuchar a algunos estudiantes discutir sus ideas sobre cómo resolver un problema relacionado con la ciencia.

Sus hijos son pensadores brillantes, curiosos y creativos. Continuaremos buscando formas de hacer que cada estudiante se sienta conocido, valorado y empoderado durante todo el año.

Noche de las Artes y la Cultura: Miércoles 14 de mayo de 5 a 7 p.m.

Esperamos que su familia pueda visitar la Noche de las Artes y la Cultura de Viewlands. Esperamos ampliar esto para tener más en los próximos años, ¡pero estamos muy entusiasmados con el evento de este año! Este evento es un evento familiar. Los estudiantes deben asistir y permanecer con sus familias durante el evento.

• Es un estilo de casa abierta, lo que significa que las familias pueden venir por un tiempo o quedarse todo el tiempo.
• Los estudiantes se quedan con sus familias en el evento.
• El parque infantil también estará abierto para jugar si las familias quieren jugar allí.
• Habrá actividades de arte y danza para explorar y participar, una feria del libro si las familias están interesadas en comprar libros, y la oportunidad de ver el mural financiado a través de WAARTS en una de nuestras escaleras.
• El evento termina a las 7, llegue a más tardar a las 6:15 para tener tiempo de explorar. El evento termina a las 7, por lo que el patio de recreo y la escuela cerrarán a esa hora.

Esperamos que muchas familias de Viewlands puedan asistir a este divertido evento de primavera. Es de estilo de casa abierta, por lo que las familias pueden venir de visita o quedarse durante todo el tiempo.

Asamblea de toda la escuela del Club Orca PRIDE

La Sra. Barry ayuda a dirigir el club Orca Pride. Este club forma parte de Viewlands desde hace varios años. Los estudiantes ayudaron a comenzar esto expresando interés. La Sra. Barry se reúne semanalmente con estudiantes de 4º y 5º grado que quieren ser parte del club del orgullo de Orcas. Este club liderará una asamblea de toda la escuela para apoyar el mes del Orgullo en junio, además de representar a Viewlands en la celebración anual del Orgullo Rainbow Hop de PhinneyWood en Greenwood.

La asamblea del Orgullo de todas las escuelas está programada para el lunes 2 de junio. El tema de la asamblea es ¿Qué significa el orgullo para mí? A los estudiantes del club Orca Pride les encantaría que otros estudiantes y familias participaran y compartieran sus propias historias sobre por qué PRIDE es importante para ellos.

Noche de las Artes y la Cultura: inscripción de voluntarios para el 14 de mayo

Reunión General de Primavera de VEPTSA – Martes 20 de mayo

Reserve la fecha para la Junta General de Primavera. Se trata de una reunión importante en la que se votará sobre las candidaturas y el presupuesto para el próximo año. Cuidado de niños en el lugar proporcionado por Creative Kids.

Reserve la fecha – Se necesitan voluntarios del Día de Campo 13 de junioEsté atento para inscribirse como voluntario para ayudar con las estaciones de carrera, supervisar los juegos y apoyar a nuestros estudiantes durante el Día de Campo. Todos los voluntarios del Día de Campo deben estar registrados en las Escuelas Públicas de Seattle.
